June 6, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the twenty-seventh class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with the Opening prayers. We together chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu. Then most of the kids chanted the bhajans we learnt so far- Ganesh, Krishna, Rama and Hanuman.

2. Attendance was taken. 

3.  For Yoga, we did Brain Yoga (Thoppakarani), Jumping Jacks, Tree Pose and Lion Pose. 

4. Then we made the kids repeat the Pledge and asked kids to practice it when they get sometime.

5. Then for some quite time, we did the Body Scan Meditation 

6. After this we did some general talking,  few kids birthdays round the corner, so they all wished each other.

7. And then we explained about the Summer Camp and next year Bal Vihar classes and asked kids to join.

8. And then kids were sharing about the books they read and  we encouraged them to read more books over the summer and to have a good summer break.

9. As its the last day of instructional class,  we made kids do a Brain Break dance for few mins.

10. After this we said our closing prayers and ended the session.

It was another great session, and great  year with active participation and maximum attendance on most of the days by all kids. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with your wonderful and talented kids. Special thanks to the parents for co-operation and support extended.

May 23, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the twenty-sixth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with the Opening prayers. We together chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu. Then most of the kids chanted the bhajans we learnt so far- Ganesh, Krishna, Rama and Hanuman.


2. Attendance was taken. 

3.  Three JCHYKS Varun, Vivan and Yash who joined us to teach the kids. They introduced themselves and did an Icebreaker round with the kids to get comfortable and to get them talking. Kids also asked them some questions.

4.Then Varun explained to the kids the lines from the Pledge "Fight Against all low Tendencies"
    narrated the story of the  An Arrogant Jackal and related it to the lines from Pledge.

5.And then Vivan  explained them the lines from the Pledge "Honesty and Nobility" and narrated the story of  The Honest Mr. Colgate

6. Lastly Yash explained them the Pledge line "Giving" and "Sharing" and narrated the story of The half Golden Mongoose

7. Then we did Jumping Jacks and did couple of Yoga poses.

8. After this we said our closing prayers and ended the session.

We all had a good time with the JCHYKS  and we thoroughly enjoyed the stories and the way they related to how the kids can follow in their own little way. Our kids responded to the JCKYKS and answered their questions.

 Next week May 30th is holiday as its long weekend due to Memorial day and next Balavihar class is on June 6th.

May 16, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the twenty-fifth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with the Opening prayers. We together chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu. And few kids sang the bhajans.


2.  We spent most of the time, recording the class videos for the Class Play on June 12th.

3. After this, we said our closing prayers and ended the session. 

Thank you parents for making your kids practice and for sending us the recordings.  All kids looked very colorful in their festive attire!!

May 9, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the twenty-fourth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with the Opening prayers. We together chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu. 


2.  We chanted "Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru devo Maheshwara Guru sakshat, param Brahma, tasmai shri guravay namah" and explained the meaning to kids. 

3. Attendance was taken, most kids wore Indian Attire and were ready with Pooja material and were excited to participate in the Gurudev Paduka pooja. Parents also joined along with kids and participated in the pooja.

4.Then we joined the group link for Guru Paduka pooja. All kids actively participated and sent pics.

5.We watched the wonderful monthly program presented by the 2nd, 3rd, 8th and JCHYK kids.

Thank you parents for making your kids practice and for sending us recordings for our monthly program.  Thank you for your time and for joining today's session and active participation in the pooja

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the twenty-third class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with the Opening prayers. We together chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu. A new kid who joined class today, so we explained the class curriculum and the most of the kids chanted the bhajans we learnt so far- Ganesh, Krishna, Rama and Hanuman.


2.  Then we introduced The Pledge and had a Brainstorming session of what it means- A pledge is a vow, an oath, a promise that we take. While saying the pledge, we
place our right hand over our heart. God is within us so when we say our pledge with our right hand placed over our heart, we are making a promise to the Lord that from now onwards, I shall live accordingly.

3. And discussed the first sentence - "We stand as one Family, bound to each other with love and respect".

4.For Story time, through the story - United we stand -we learnt that by staying together you can achieve the impossible and defend yourself better. 

5. We had asked Parents to join at 10, to review the draft recordings of the kid's videos and discussed the next steps and recommendations for the Class Play.

6. After this we said our closing prayers and ended the session.

Thank you parents for making your kids practice and for sending us the draft recordings to help us review the flow and decide on revisions.  Thank you for your time and for joining today's session to discuss with us. All kids are doing wonderful and we are thoroughly enjoying with them.

Today was the twentyfirst class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers. The opening prayers were led by three kids who chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu and we all joined. 

2.  Some of the kids sang the bhajans we learnt so far- Ganesh, Krishna and Hanuman.

3. As we completed learning all the alphabets in the vedantic way,  For today's class we made the kids practice for the Monthly play.

4.  We practiced the Ram Bhajan and couple of kids sang independently.

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the  twentyfirst class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers. We all chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu. 

2.  Some of the kids sang the bhajans we learnt so far- Ganesh, Krishna and Hanuman and we practiced together both the Ram bhajans.

3. For today's class we discussed the next letter 'Q' - Quiet- is to be tranquil, calm, and undisturbed. It is a state of calmness of.

4. During the Brainstorming session, we discussed, Why is it good to be quiet at times?  When we are quiet, we are more focused and we can listen to others. This in turn allows us to work better. What happens when we have a quiet mind? When we have a quiet mind, we feel happy. We discussed that meditation, nama japa, lithika japa are all means of staying calm and being tranquil. 
Then we shared the story in Ramayana showing of the power of Rama nama during the time of building the bridge when all of Rama's army had to cross over to Lanka to fight with Ravana and his army.
  
5. During Story time, through the story of The Turtle Who Did Not Listen - we learnt why its important to be quiet at times.
 
6. And through story of the Spider, we learnt that we need to Be quiet to Excel 

7. Then we played a video from Brain Break Action Videos for Kids- 'Move and Freeze', Kids learnt the need to focused and dance and stay calm when needed. All kids happily participated and we all enjoyed!! 
 
8. Then Attendance was taken- with each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called.

9. After this we discussed with each kid their roles in the monthly play and next few weeks we will be practicing in the regular classes and couple of extra classes might be needed.

10.Then we all joined the 9th grade monthly play, which we all enjoyed and learnt from.

 It was another wonderful session with kids actively participating. And thank you parents for sitting through the session. Please help your kids practice their lines, record it and send us the video.

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the twentieth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers. The opening prayers were led by three kids who chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu and we all joined. 

2.  Some of the kids sang the bhajans we learnt so far- Ganesh, Krishna and Hanuman.

3. For today's class we discussed the next letter 'P' - Prayer - Is a means to thank God for everything he has given us and we come closer to God when we pray.

4. During the Brainstorming session, we discussed how we can pray to God- by chanting verses, shlokas, singing bhajans, japa, meditation, go to temples etc. By doing this we can get closer to God, feel his love, care and kindness. And we can emulate the qualities of God in our day to day life by being helpful, compassionate, being thankful, kind and helpful to all.

5. Then we learnt the below Shloka and its meaning.
Tvam-Eva Maataa Ca Pitaa Tvam-Eva | Tvam-Eva Bandhush-Ca Sakhaa Tvam-Eva | Tvam-Eva Viidyaa Dravinnam Tvam-Eva |Tvam-Eva Sarvam Mama Deva Deva ||

6. During Story time, through the story of Gajendra Moksha, we learnt that sincere prayers are always answered and we need to completely surrender to God and God will definitely help us get through our challenges.

6. Then through the story of God's beautiful Creation - we learnt that God's love us a lot to give us blue sky, sunshine, mountains, rivers, birds, flowers, fruits etc. And we should always be thankful and bow to the Supreme Lord.

7. Then we discussed about the shloka to be chanted before partaking food - 

Brahmārpañam Brahma Havir BrahmāgnauBrahmañāhutaṃ, Brahmaiva Tena Gantavyam BrahmakarmāSamādhinah.


8. For Yoga, we did Jumping Jacks, Rainbow Pose, and couple Stretching poses.

9. Then Attendance was taken - with each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called.

10. After this we learnt Rama bhajan, we all sang together and practiced few times. Will continue learning 2 more bhajans in the next couple of weeks.

11.Then parents had joined the session as requested and we discussed the KG monthly program plan. And we will be providing each kid's part soon. 


 It was another wonderful session with kids actively participating. And thank you parents for sitting through the session and for joining us to discuss the monthly program plans.

Mar 21, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the nineteenth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers. The opening prayers were led by three kids who chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu and we all joined. 

2.  For today's class we had planned to cover the next three letters X , Y and Z.

3. Then we introduced the letter of the day as 'X-  Excellence is to do something outstandingly well'.

4. During the Exploration session, we discussed to achieve excellence we need plenty of practice, dedication, and perseverance. And discussed about Swimming ,cycling activities which though take time to learn, but we can excel with practice.

5. During Story time, through the story of Thomas Alva Edison, we learnt how Edison built the light bulb and how he was wrong 1000 times and succeeded the 1001th time which shows 'Perseverance succeeds'. And when asked about his failures, he said with a positive attitude and conviction that he knew he would succeed, and said he now knows a thousand ways of how not to make an electric light bulb.

6. Then through the story of the Big Frog and the Small Frog, we learnt that 'We should never give up and always keep trying' 

7. For Yoga, we did Jumping Jacks ,Tree Pose, and Rainbow Pose.

8. Then we introduced the next letter of the day 'Y is for Yajna' - is a fire ritual performed to please God. Its a  special prayer performed to please God, with special Shloka chanting and offerings put into the scared fire. And discussed about the Yajna spirit is working together for a common cause with dedication, sacrifice, and service.

9. During Exploration time, we discussed examples of Yajna spirit : how Gandhiji's and his followers worked hard for India's freedom, Mother Theresa worked for the downtrodden people, And how all the scientists and doctors worked hard and created the vaccine for Corona virus to help mankind. 

10. Then we introduced the next letter of the day as 'Z-Zeal is doing things with great passion, enthusiasm, fervor, and eagerness' 

11.  During Exploration time, One of the kids showed us, his newly built football game toy set which he and his dad built - which showed passion and eagerness. And we told kids, small projects like this help us build our passion and enthusiasm. And for the Alphabet chant we chanted 'Bal Vihar Zindabad'.

12. After this, Attendance was taken. 

13. We concluded the class and then all of us joined the 4th grade monthly program which we all enjoyed.


 It was another wonderful session with kids actively participating. And thank you parents for sitting through the session to help the kids and for your participation.

  Please note we don't have Balavihar classes on March 28th and April 4th due to Spring Break and Easter. Our next class is only on April 11th.

Mar 14, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the eighteen class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers. The opening prayers were led by two kids who chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu and we all joined. 
2.  For today's class we had planned to cover three letters U , V and W.

3. Then we introduced the letter of the day as U -  Unity is to join hands and work together to help each other.

4. During the Exploration session, we discussed about Unity in Body, All body parts are different. They look different, they function differently. Yet, they all work together. This is called Unity in Diversity.

5.For Activity time, Kids were asked to do the activity, and learn that  'Hold hands to work together ' - this is called Unity.

6. During Story time, through the story of the Four Cows, we learnt that  'We have a far better chance of protecting ourselves from an enemy if we stand together'. And United we stand, Divided we fall.
 
7. For Yoga, we did Jumping jacks ,Tree Pose, Lion Pose and Butterfly Pose.

8.And then few of the kids lead the Hanuman Bhajan.

9. Then we introduced the next letter of the day V is for Victory- is when you attain your goal. To be victorious, work hard and always speak the truth. And we discussed small and big goals and how kids can be victorious. 

10. During Storytime, through the story of the Marathon Race, we learnt, that its not always about being victorious, it's about winning together and being considerate to each other.

11. During Exploration time, we learnt about the Emblem of India and what it represents and the inscription states 'Satyameva Jayate - Truth alone Triumphs'.

12. Then for Quiet time, we did Body Scan Meditation and everyone stayed quiet and relaxed.

13. After this, Attendance was taken.

14. Then we introduced the last letter of the Day W - Work is effort directed to produce or accomplish something. And that Dreaming about something will not get us what we want. We have to work
hard to be rewarded. We discussed few day to day scenarios where hard work is helps and get us what we want.

15. During Story time, through the story of The Ant And The Grasshopper - we learnt that We must work hard in order to play and enjoy.

16. After this, few of the kids to chant Geeta verses 3 and 4 independently and one of the kids chanted all five verses as well.

17. For Exit ticket, kids were asked to complete the Coloring sheets and Activity sheet.

18. And then concluded the session after chanting the Closing Prayers, and few kids lead the Closing Prayers.


 It was another wonderful session with kids actively participating. And most of the kids were on time inspite of the time change last night.  And thank you parents for sitting through the session to help the kids and for your participation.

Mar 7, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the seventeenth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers. The opening prayers were led by two kids who chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu and we all joined. And then few of the kids lead the Hanuman Bhajan.

2.  For today's class we had planned to cover two letters S and T. So during today's attendance we asked each of the kid's to give a sweet smile and say HariOm. All the kids followed the same, and it was wonderful to see their beautiful smiles and to introduce the letter S. 

3. Then we introduced the letter of the day as S for Smile - a facial expression of joy and happiness. We discussed that happy and funny things makes us smile. And when we smile, people want to talks to us and make us happy. 

4. In the Brainstorming session, we discussed various scenarios which makes us happy and smile. And to smile is easy and a simple thing to do to make everyone happy. When we smile we stay healthy and a Smile is contagious, hence everyone around us also smiles and is happy as well.

5. During Story time, through the story of the Million Dollar Smile, we learnt that a Smile can help solve all our problems and makes everyone happy. For Exploration time, we asked kids to use the Activity sheet to find the Hidden Smile. And kids were taught 'Wear a Smile and stay in Style'. 

 6. For Yoga, we did Jumping jacks and Tree Pose, and Brain Yoga.

7. Then we introduced the next letter of the day T is for Truth which means integrity and sincerity in words and actions. And that we need to be truthful by not being scared of the consequences and
understanding that it is always better to tell the truth than lies. And Ultimately Truth alone always triumphs.

8. During Brainstorming session, we discussed various scenarios to discuss when we say the truth and when we say lies. We lie when we feel that the truth will get us into trouble but a lie will
save us. We lie because we feel we will benefit by lying. And we lie because we forget: Ultimately, truth alone wins.

9. During Storytime, through the story of the Boy who cried Wolf, we learnt that by lying, we can hurt ourselves and others around us. And kids were taught 'Satyam vada, Priyam vada' .

10. Then for Quiet time, we did Body Scan Meditation and everyone stayed quiet and relaxed.

11. After this, we made few of the kids to chant Geeta verses 3 and 4 independently and then we together chanted the verses and by played Swamiji's video to make kids listen to the chanting.

12. For Exit ticket, kids were asked to complete the Coloring sheets and Activity sheet.

13. And then ended the session on a happy cheerful note by singing the 'When you are Happy and you know' song  and few kids lead the Closing Prayers.


 It was another wonderful session with kids actively participating.  And thank you parents for sitting through the session to help the kids and for your participation.

Feb 28, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the sixteenth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers. The opening prayers were led by three kids who chanted Om three times and then chanted Sahana vavatu and we all joined. And then one of the kids lead the Hanuman Bhajan.

2.  For today's class we had planned to cover two letters O and R. So we introduced the first letter of the day 'O'-stands for Obedience which means dutifully doing what one is told to do without protesting. We discussed why kids need to listen to parents, elders and teachers and not argue, as they by their experience know what is good for us.

3. For Yoga time, we did Jumping jacks and Tree Pose.

4. We had a new kid who joined our class today. We briefly provided details on the class structure.

5.In the Brainstorming session, we discussed what will happen if the Sun does not set in the evening? What happens if mom does not cook food everyday? What happens if no one will follow the road signs? Why is there a need to do everything in order? because otherwise there will be chaos. And when everyone and everything works in orderly fashion there will be harmony. To maintain this harmony, all things and beings have to obey the rules of nature. Through different scenarios, we went over why kids need to obey and explained that sometimes even if we do not like what we hear and what we have to do, as it is in our best interest to listen and obey.

6. During Storytime for letter O, through the story of the Obedient Child we learned that we should Be obedient and save yourself from trouble. 

7.During Exploration time, we discussed that though the next letter of the alphabet is P, but its not so in the Vedanta alphabet. In the Vedanta alphabet, letter "R" comes after "O." Why? Because we first need to learn all the values of the alphabet except "P" and "Q." After we learn all these values, we become fit to do prayers, and learn about the letter "P" which stands for prayer. When we offer prayers to
the Lord, what is the result? The result is, we become quiet, and learn about the letter "Q." 

8.We introduced that the next letter of the day R stands for Right-is that which is morally good, just, fair, or means correct action.

9. During Brainstorming time, we discussed what Doing The Right Thing means. We played a game where kids were asked to raise their hand, if they think its right thing to do, or stay quiet if they think its the wrong thing to do, we went over different scenarios to help kids reflect on the right thing to do in each scenario. And discussed that we need to do the right thing even if no one is watching and we ourselves know what is the right thing and that we ourselves know when we don't do the right thing.

10. During Storytime for the letter R, through the story of The Rock on the Road, we learnt that we need to Do the right thing, even if nobody else is doing it. Doing the right thing always brings good rewards and happiness in the end. 

11. For Exit ticket, kids were asked to complete the Coloring sheets.

12.Then Attendance was taken by each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called out. 

13. Due to monthly program by 5th grade class, we all joined the Main Session, for the 5th grade monthly program which we all enjoyed.

 It was another wonderful session with kids actively participating and we had full attendance today.  And thank you parents for sitting through the session to help the kids and for your participation.

Feb 21, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the fifteenth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers by chanting Om three times and then we all together chanted Sahana vavatu, All kids were dressed in Blue, as we belong to Krishna's Cowboys as part of House Spirit Day activities.

2.  We introduced the letter of the day 'N'- it stands for Nobility - is upholding high moral standards and strong character. And that we can be noble by taking care of others and putting others needs first.

3.In the Brainstorming session we discussed Noble people like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln etc. - who lived many years ago and did many Noble deeds and helped mankind. And we can develop noble qualities by learning from them.

3. Through the story of the Other Shoe - which shows the noble actions of Mahatma Gandhi, we learnt how our simple thoughtful actions can be of great help to others.

4. Then Attendance was taken by each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called out. 

5. During Story time, through the story of Noble Cow - we learnt that being truthful and righteous is always rewarding, And we should show compassion towards all.

6. Then through the story of Mother Teresa - we learnt she had Compassion towards all and created many charities to help the poor, sick and helpless people and little children.
 
7. Then we together practiced Hanuman Bhajan.  

8. For next class, we identified few kids who will lead opening prayers, bhajans and closing prayers to motivate kids to learn!

9. As its House Spirit Day, we had parents join the session with kids at 10:10, to help understand the Scavenger Hunt game, its categories, and rules. And then we gave them five minutes time to gather items in each category.  Kids excitedly went to collect the different items.

10. After five minutes, kids showed each of the items they collected for each category when we went over each category. And pictures were taken , along with a count of the kids having the right item for each category. And provided it to the House Co-coordinators.

11. And then we all joined the Main Session, for rest of the House Spirit Day Activities 

12.Kids enjoyed the Scavenger Hunt and overall a very exciting session, all kids actively happily participated with parents.


  And thank you parents for sitting through the session to help the kids and for your participation. And for making sure kids are dressed in Blue.

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the fourteenth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers by chanting Om three times and then we all together chanted Sahana vavatu and couple of kids volunteered to chant Ganesh bhajan and Krishna bhajan.

2.  We chanted the Hanuman Bhajan together three times.

3. And then we asked kids about last week's exit ticket, some of the kids shared the chores they helped out at home.

4. Attendance was taken by each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called out.

5. We introduced the next letter of the day 'L' and that it stands for 'Love' which means being affectionate. And that we express our Love through good behavior and serving others.

6. During Brainstorming session, we discussed various ways , we can express our Love for others. And that God loves us all the most.

7. During Story time, by way of two stories, Gandhiji's Love and the Best Gift, we learnt that Love can change a person to become good and one can show Love by doing good things and behaving well with others.

8. Then we asked kids to do complete the Puzzle -Make a Word - which spells out LOVE. And for Exit ticket, kids were asked to complete the Activity -'The House I built' which shows them the importance of Love.

9. Then we did Yoga, tree pose, and butterfly pose with kids leading the session.

10. We introduced the next letter 'M' stands for Mother and Mother cares, nurtures, and protects us. and for Alphabet chant for letter M we chanted - 'Mathru devo bhava'.

11. During Brainstorming session, we discussed the various ways we can express love to our Mother by helping her, respecting her, listening to her and respecting her.

12.During Story time, through two stories, Mommy's Love and P.S. I love you Mom, we learnt that Mom's love is very powerful and when you love someone, you don't demand anything in return. 

13. During exploration time, we learnt that 'Mother Nature', 'Mother India', 'Mother Sruti', 'Mother Earth' and 'Mother Cow' are all symbols of Mother who we worship. That they care for us, nourish us and sustain us.

14. Then couple of kids recited Geeta verses 1,2 and 3.  And we asked all the kids to practice verses 2 and 3 and Hanuman bhajan for next class.

15. For Exit ticket, we asked kids to do something nice to express their Love for their parents.

Lastly, we said the closing prayers and concluded the session. 

In today's session we learnt two Letters L and M, another exciting session with our wonderful kids. Kids actively participated and shared their views.

Jan 31, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the thirteenth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers by chanting Om three times and then we all together chanted Sahana vavatu and kids chanted together Ganesha and Krishna bhajans.

2.  Then we learnt the Hanuman Bhajan with meaning and chanted together. 

3. And then we asked kids about last week's exit ticket, which was to do nama Japa, and chanting Om with family, some kids shared that they chanted together with family and individually as well.

4. Attendance was taken by each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called out.

5. We did the Alphabet chant and introduced the next letter of the day 'K' and that it stands for 'Kindness' which means being gentle, generous and good natured. And that we can be kind to others with our actions and be helpful. And when we are kind and helpful, God takes care of all our needs.

6. During Brainstorming session, we discussed various ways in which we can be kind and gentle with our day to day actions and be kind to all without expecting anything in return.

7. Then we did Yoga, tree pose, snake pose and butterfly pose with kids leading the session.

8. During Quiet time, we did Body Scan meditation, which kids actively participated and stayed quiet throughout. 

9. For Story time, through the story of Prince Siddhartha and the Swan, we learnt the kindness of Prince Siddhartha was towards the swan. And that we should be kind to all living beings.

10. Through the story of the Slave and the Lion, we learnt that Kindness helps and by doing kind deeds to all living beings without expecting anything in return, God takes care of all our needs.

11. Then Kids were asked to color the sheet given, while listening to Geeta chanting Verse 3 playing in the background. And then couple of kids individually chanted verse 3.

12. For Exit ticket, kids were asked to do kind deeds throughout the week and end of the week to ask their parents to write couple of lines stating the kind actions of their kids. And also, Kids were asked to make something which they want give to their parents to express their love.

13. Lastly, we said the closing prayers together and concluded the session.

 Another exciting session with our wonderful kids. Kids actively participated and shared their thoughts and views with us. And thank you parents for sitting through the session to help the kids.

Jan 24, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the twelfth class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers by chanting Om three times and then we all together chanted Sahana vavatu.

2.  Attendance was taken by each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called out.

4. We introduced the letter of the day 'J' and that it stands for 'Japa which means repeating God's name with devotion. This improves our concentration and helps our mind to focus better.

5. During Brainstorming session, we discussed What is Japa ? Japa is the repetition of the Lord's name. And then we recited the song Khate bhi Ram Kaho .. And explained that as the action song depicts, we can take the Lord's name while doing any activity.

6. One of the kids, recited the same song with the action words of the bhajan in English, like Sitting bhi Ram Kaho, etc. And also asked kids to chant with their favorite God's name.

7. And then we discussed, Why do we need to learn to concentrate and pay attention? By concentrating on a task and paying attention, we can succeed. 

8. Then, we explained that - Om represents all the words, and everything in the world. We explained how to chant Om and explained that we need to chant it three times before starting any work to help us focus better. And also asked kids to write Om any number of times they can.

9. After this we asked the kids to Color the J sheet and ask them to chant 'Sri Ram Jaya Ram Jaya Ram' while coloring, Kids did the coloring and chanted Sri Ram Jaya Ram Jaya Ram while doing so.

10. For the Exit ticket,  Kids were asked to sit together with their family and chant Om three times and also during the week while doing their activities to chant God's name.

11. Lastly, we said the closing prayers and concluded the session early due to the Monthly play performed by 7th grade students which we all joined to watch.

Jan 10, 2021 - Kindergarten (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

Today was the eleventh class of Balavihar!! Here is the summary of what we covered in class today:

After everyone joined the Zoom session:

1.  We started the class with Opening prayers by chanting Om three times and then we all together chanted Sahana vavatu.

2. As its the first class in the new year, we chanted Ganesha slokhas, Sarawathi slokha and Guru slokha as well.

3. Attendance was taken by each kid saying Hari Om when their name was called out.

4. Most of the kids shared with us what they did during the holidays.

5. We did the alphabet chant until letter G and then introduced the letter H -is for Happiness and during Brainstorming session, we discussed various instances which makes us happy and sad. And explained that Happiness is a state of the mind and is actually not related to any object or person.

6. During Exploration time, through various examples, we explained that we should be content with what we have and be happy in all situations and always encourage happy thoughts. 

7. Next we did Yoga, some of the kids led this session, we did tree pose, soldier pose, etc.

8. Next, we introduced the next letter I - stands for Intelligence and that Intelligence is the mental ability of understanding and learning new facts, 

9. And we had a Brainstorming session where in kids were asked questions on what is mind? what is Intellect? and explained that Intellect helps us decide what is right and what is wrong and our Mind helps us recognize specific object or situation. And that our intellect gives us good advice; but, to become a good person, we must also learn to listen to our intellect, just as we listen to our parents. 

10. During Exploration time, we learnt the difference between humans and animals is that humans possess a well developed mind and an intellect, while animals do not. And that we need to use our Intellect wisely by making right choices.

11. During Story time, One of kids told the story of the Celestial Fruit, through which we learnt that, you use your intellect, to become victorious.

12. Kids were asked to solve the Ganesha jigsaw puzzle as an exit ticket. (Parents to cut along the marked lines and scramble the pieces for the Ganesha puzzle)

13. Then we chanted the Krishna bhajan with couple of kids leading the chant. And then kids were asked to practice BG Ch 2 verses 1 and 2 for next class.

14. Lastly, we said the closing prayers and concluded the session.

 Another exciting session with our wonderful kids. Kids were happily participating and sharing their views. Wishing all parents a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2021 !! And thank you parents for sitting through the session to help the kids. This class, we learnt the next two letters of the alphabets  H and I in the vedantic way. 
 
Due to long weekend, we don't have class next Sunday. Next class is only on Jan 24th 2021.
