Oct 4, 2020 Grade 6 (Sunday AM)

Below is the update from our class grade 6 Sunday AM this week.

October 4, 2020 / 9:15AM

Shlokas

We began class with regular opening prayers.

Today we chanted 7 slokas of the Guru Stotram. Each of the slokas were recited by one child. We plan to complete the stotram in one month's time.

Mahabharata- our lesson

We started with a short 9 minute video of the Mahabharat from the beginning of Virata Parva to the death of Keechaka.

Then, we moved on to the Virata Parva from the point of Keechaka's death

We discussed:

1.Duryodhana guessing that Keechaka had to have been killed by Bheema.

2. Duryodhana being advised against making greedy decisions by the elders  Bheeshma, Kripacharya and Drona and him rejecting their advise

3. Susarma making a deal with Duryodhana and attacking the Matsya kingdom from the South.

4.Kaurava army attacks Matsya from the north

5.Uttara Kumara is the only one in the palace as King Virata and the 4 Pandavas are fighting Susarma. Upon Saiyandri's advise he agrees to take Brihannala as his charioteer. He goes to the battlefield to fight but turns a coward and begins to run away at the sight of the Kaurava army.

6.Arjuna reveals himself to Uttara and has him retrieve the weapons from the Sami tree.

7.Arjuna twangs his bow and begins to fight even as Duryodhana rejoices thinking that Arjuna has revealed himself too soon.

8.Arjuna defeats the Kauravas and fires an arrow Sammoham that puts them all to sleep. He has Uttara Kumara collect pieces of silk off the Kauravas for the rag dolls of Princess Uttara. They returned to Virata.
The slides used in the class with the story are attached below

We played Swamiji's recitation of Verses 1 and 2 from Chapter 2 Bhagwad Gita. The link for the same has been emailed to all parents.
