Hari Om Parents,
The sequence and summary of today's class are as follows:
-Opening prayers and Om chanting
-Recap of previous class.
-Dashavatara sthotram practice
-Story - Matsya avatar
There was a noble king named Satyavrata. One day as he was doing his daily prayers in a river, a small fish came into his hand. On the request of the fish, instead of putting it back into the river, he puts it in his kamadalu. The fish keeps growing in size everyday, so much so that, no container, lake or river is enough for it anymore. Satyavrata is puzzled at this, and he suddenly realizes that it could be no ordinary fish, but Lord Narayana himself, incarnated as the fish. The Lord tells Satyavrata that in seven days, the worlds will be submerged in the oceans of pralaya and Satyavrata alongwith herbs, plants and all animal species, should get on to a boat that'll come to him. The seven rishis would also accompany him. The Lord further tells Satyavrata that he need not be afraid, and he would get divine enlightenment.
At the end of the pralaya, Lord Vishnu, in his matsya avatar kills the asura, Hayagriva and rescues the Vedas that he had stolen and kept under the ocean.
We discussed why the Lord chose the form of a fish. The Lord can take any avatar that is appropriate for the situation. For going under the ocean and protecting the vedas, he took the matsya avatar.
The Vedas are the valuable knowledge for us to lead our lives in the right way and be happy. The Lord being considerate and an ocean of love, takes the avatars to protect us and help us.
We talked about small ways in which we can be considerate too.
