Hari om parents,
Prayers
We started the class with pranayamams and three OM's, then each of our children led the beginning prayers one at a time from Karagre to the last one Karacharana. It is good to hear them.
Then we chanted together the Ramayana Dhyaana slokha
"Neelambuja shyamala komalaangam" (page 129 of My Prayers green book).
Then we recited "Namramyanam bhajan (Balakandam, Ayodhyakandam, Aranyakandam, Kishkindakandam, Sundarakandam, and Yuddhakandam).
Key to Success
We reviewed mechanics of the mind and started new lesson; Vibhisana Gita.
Vibhishana Gita is from the sixth canto of Sri Ramacaritamansa, popularly known as Tulasi Ramayana, composed by Sri Tulasidasa.
Vibhisana doubt how Lord Rama can conquer Ravana who is so mighty and well-equipped with weapons. Lord Rama said "the chariot by which one gains real victory is totally different", the wheels of the chariot are Sauraja (courage), Dhiraja (patience), Satya Sila (Truthfulness), Dhvaja Pataka (Good Character).
We discussed how when we are overcome with negative tendencies of hate, anger, jealousy etc., our behavior reflects the trait of Ravana. And when we are full of love, compassion, our conduct is like Lord Rama's. We discussed how Lord Rama did not compromise values.
We listened Cherokee boy story where the boy's father protects him all times. The meaning is Lord is always protecting us by sitting next to us.
Discussion on Quote
Children were given a quote to connect to their daily life, "The results of action depends upon the very quality of the action" by Swami Chinmayananda Swaraswati
These are the responses from children
Half effort, we are not going to get the results. Less quality gives less results.
Math test, check answers and work hard to get good scores.
Take care of seeds you sow, otherwise they will not grow well.
Children participated in reading the quote and analyzing what it means to their daily lives.
Brain Break
Then we played Kahoot game based on previous week's lessons from "Key to Success".
Pledge
We concluded with pledge led by one of our students.
Pranaams,
