Hari Om,
We started our class with 3 Om chantings, followed by our regular shlokas.
Our saint for this week was Tyagaraja. This was presented in depth by one student. Tyagaraja was born on May 4, 1767 in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu. He was named after Tyagaraja, the presiding deity at the temple in Tiruvarur. His grandfather taught him to play the veena at a very young age. He composed almost 24,000 songs, of which only 700 songs are sung today. Most of his songs were on Lord Rama, and written in Telugu, with a few in Sanskrit. He composed kritis and keerthanas, as well as 2 musical plays, Prahlaad Bhakti Vijaya and Nauka Charitram. One of his most famous works was the Pancharatna Kritis. Tyagaraja did Rama Nama japa 960,000,000 times in 11 years.
We have our monthly program on February 28th, where we are planning on showcasing our knowledge on Saints of India. We also continued with our learning of Geeta verses 17 and 18. I have sent the link for these verses in our WhatsApp group. Please use these available resources to familiarize the kids with Geeta chanting. We ended our class with the pledge. See you all next week!
Regards,
Raji and Rekha
