Nov 22 and Dec 6, 2020 - Grade 2 (Sunday PM)

Dear Parents:

Hari OM!

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving break!.

It was great to see the kids after a week-long break, all cheerful and ready to learn!

Please see the summary of Week 7 - 11/22/2020 below:

  • We started the class with OM chanting & opening prayers (Om Saha Navavatu).

  • We did a recap of Hanumanji's values by asking the kids to tell the meaning of 'Buddih', 'Balam' and 'Yasas', and what these meant to them!

  • We then chanted Gita verses 1 & 2 from Chapter 2.

  • We moved on to the next value 'Dhairyam', and explained the meaning of courage.

  • A few kids chanted Dyana Shloka and we continued the session by watching a short video on courage.  Kids were asked to name some situations where they had to be brave.

  • We spoke about breaking bad habits by gathering courage, and took upon a small challenge for the week! Kids were asked to identify one of their bad habits and find ways to overcome it!

  • We continued on with our Backbone project, which is a great way to remind kids & enforce the values we have learnt so far!

  • We concluded the session with reading (popcorn) of the tale, 'The Transformation of Ratnakara', followed by Chinmaya Pledge.

Week 8 - 12/06/2020 summary:

  • We started the class with OM chanting & opening prayers (Om Saha Navavatu).

  • A few kids discussed what they did to overcome their bad habits.

  • We then chanted Gita verses 3 & 4 from Chapter 2.

  • We chanted Dyana Shloka and it was amazing to see the kids chant without help!

  • We did a recap of previously discussed Hanumanji's values and talked about 'Nirbhayatvam' and 'Arogata' in detail.

  • We spoke about fear and fearlessness, and ways to overcome fear!

  • We watched a short video about the foolish, timid rabbit and discussed if fears were real!

  • We moved onto the next value 'Arogata', and explained the importance of both physical and mental health by finding things that make us strong & weak in word finder puzzles.

  • 'Health is Wealth' was further emphasized with several examples & a short story.

  • We began chanting the first two verses of Hanuman Calisa.

  • Our class was concluded with the Pledge.

Thank you for reading!  Please ask your children to follow Swamiji's videos on Gita chanting and continue to practice at home!
