Week 10:
20th December 2020 / 9:15AMClass began with opening prayers -3 OMs and followed by SahanAvavatu.
One of the students led the chanting of "Neelambuja shyamala komalaangam".
We continued to learn Naama Ramayanam- finished Kishkinda kandam.
Ramayana:
Hanuman went into the city of Lanka - it was night and he went into the palaces thinking Sita must be where the women live - he almost mistook Mandodari for Sita, but then realized that Sita would not be sleeping so comfortably being away from Rama. He found the Pushpaka vimana, and many other exhibits of opulence, but not Sita. He was deeply worried that if he did not find Sita, he would be the cause of death of Rama and Lakshmana and by extension their entire families as well Sugriva and his followers! He decided to meditate for a while and calm his mind. Then with renewed energy, he decided to look in the one place he had not searched yet, which was Ashoka vana. As he moved over the treetops, he got a glimpse of Sita. He moved closer to observe and at that time, Ravana came with an entourage. He alternatively cajoled and threatened Sita to accept him, to no avail. He left, giving her two months time to either accept him or be eaten! Sita was consoled by Trijata, one of the rakshasi' who said she had a dream where she saw good omens for Sita and Vibhishana and bad omens for Ravana and Lanka.
In-spite of her comforting words, Sita despaired and was ready to give up her life. Hanuman immediately started chanting Rama's story. Thrilled to hear Rama's name, Sita listened. On seeing Hanuman, she wondered if it was Ravana's trick, and asked Hanuman for more details. Hanuman convinced Sita by telling her many details about Rama and also gave her the signet ring Rama had given him. Sita was overjoyed and asked Hanuman for all details about Rama. Hanuman explained to her all the events that happened since she was abducted. Overcome with joy of finding her, he offered to carry her back to Rama. Sita kindly declined saying she would not willingly choose the help of a man other than Rama. Hanuman then asked her to give some token of recognition for Rama.Sita gave him her Chudamani (hair ornament) and also told him the story of Kakasura. She also told Hanuman that she would wait for only one month for her rescue by Rama.
Hanuman then decided to get a measure of Ravana's military might and proceeded to destroy Ashoka vana. Ravana sent many of his military leaders to fight but they were all killed by Hanuman. Frustrated, he sent his son Indrajit, who managed to get Hanuman bound by the Brahmastra. The demons who accompanied them tied him again with ropes which released Hanuman from the brahmastra, but he quietly went as he wanted to see Ravana. Entering the court, he was very impressed by Ravana and wondered what a great person he could have been if only he followed dharmic ways. He introduced himself as Rama's messenger and advised him to return Sita and avoid war. Ravana was furious and wanted to kill Hanuman, but Vibhishana's wise counsel stopped him. Ravana decided to set Hanuman's tail on fire. But this backfired as Hanuman, protected by Sita's prayers and blessings, did not feel any pain and instead jumped all around Lanka, setting the whole city on fire. He then went and met Sita again, before returning back to Mahendra parvata.

We recorded Gita verses 5-12 and learned verses 13 and 14 following Swamiji's chanting video.
We concluded with Santhi mantras and pledge.
Our next class is on January 10th, 2021- Have a great Holiday season and Happy New Years to all.
Parents, please record the kids memorized video version of Gita chapter 2 (4 verses at a stretch) and send it to house email to gain points for our Bajrangi Bolt's house.
