Sept 20, 2020- Grade 5 (Sunday AM)

Hari Om parents,

We had a very informative first class on zoom . We started with 3 om's, Sahana Vavatu ,vakrathunda, saraswati namasthubyam ,guru brahma and buddhir  balam .A few kids said they did not know the shlokas. I will forward the wordings of the shlokas in the WhatsApp group. You can star the shlokas for easy reference. The children were all ready and eagerly spoke about themselves. We had a icebreaker wherein each child shared 3 things about themselves.

After the introductions , we had a quick yoga session. Our curriculum for this year is Mahabhartha upto Virat parva and Saints of India. We plan to do both simultaneously. We started of today with a very brief introduction to the epic Mahabharata .

Mahabharata was narrated by Vyasa and written by Ganesha. Ganesha agreed to write on the condition that Vyasa would not stop reciting the epic. Vyasa agreed to it with a counter that Ganesha would not write unless he understood every verse. There are over 100,000 shlokas and is considered as the fifth veda. Vishnu Sahasranamam, Bhagvad Geeta, Yaksha Prasnam, Vidur Neeti etc are a few gems of Mahabharata. There are 18 parvas and we will learn the first 4 this year.

We reviewed the sanskrit sounds and familiarized the kids with transliteration characters . We will follow the same next week as well, before moving on to Chapter 2 of Bhagvad Geeta. Our class is expected to know 1-30 for the Geeta chanting competition in April 2021.

As mentioned earlier, the kids should have My prayers, handbook 2020-2021 ,a note book for Likita Japa and a pen/pencil. We would also need additional material for any art work we do as the year progresses. Please join our group WhatsApp for faster updates.

Looking forward to meeting the children again next week!

Regards,

Rekha and Raji
